Bog Turtle Relationships
Types of Relasionships
On this page, you will learn about animal relationships, and the Bog Turtles relationships. There are four main types of animal relationships, commensalism, mutualism, parasitism and competition.
Commensalism
Commensalism is a relationship in which one benefits and the other derives neither benefit nor harm. An example of this type of relationship is the whale and the barnacle, the whale is unaffected by the barnacle and the barnacle can now consume micro-organisms that it normally would not be able to access.
Mutualism
Mutualism is an association between organisms in which both organisms benefit. For example, Oxpeckers and zebras, the Oxpeckers eat the parasites and ticks off the zebras hair and obtain food and the zebra now has clean fur with no parasites or ticks in it.
Parasitism
Parasitism is a relationship in which one organism benefits and the other is harmed. An example of this is the leech and the Bog Turtle, the leech sucks the Bog Turtles blood and obtain food, however, the Bog turtle loses some of its blood and is therefor harmed.
Competition
Competition is an association between organisms in which two or more individuals compete for one resource. For example, trees, the two trees will compete for sunlight and in the end, the taller tree will win, and possibly block the smaller trees sunlight.
